Meet Our Priest
The Reverend Jan Nunley
Supply Priest as of January 2021
Mother Jan Nunley has served St. Mark’s as supply priest since January, 2021. She retired in 2019 after 25 years in active parish ministry and diocesan and national communications, including eight years as Deputy for Communication and Executive Editor of Episcopal Life Media at the Episcopal Church Center in Manhattan.
Prior to ordination, Mother Jan worked for two decades as a television and radio journalist in San Antonio, Fort Worth, and Dallas, Texas, and in Boston, Massachusetts. A member of the original staff of NPR’s Living on Earth environmental news program, she anchored the show’s newscast, filled in as host, and served as Director of Development for the show’s parent organization, the World Media Foundation.
Born in Gulfport, Mississippi, Mother Jan grew up an “Air Force brat” in San Antonio. She moved to Boston to attend Episcopal Divinity School in 1989, spent seven years in Rhode Island, and moved to Peekskill, New York in 2000.
She and her wife Susie Erdey will celebrate their 32nd anniversary this coming November. Susie is Director of Development at Teatown Lake Reservation. Together they enjoy permaculture-style gardening, making improvements to their 1915 Arts & Crafts home (fondly known as “Fallengutter”), and rescuing senior Alaskan Malamutes, the latest of whom is Velma.
